How do I get started placing an order?

There are several ways you can go about placing an order or getting more information.  Simply fill out the Information and Order Request Form (www.julieartworks.com/order.html), call us at 267-221-1437, or send an email to julie@julieartworks.com.  If you are ready to place an order, let us know what work you'd like to have done, what size (or how many) you have in mind, and so forth.  If you are not sure of the specifics yet, or if you just want more information, that's OK, too.  Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

What's the best way to send you my photo?

There are two ways you can send your photo to us -- through the regular mail, or via email attachment.  Either way works fine for us, so chose the method you are most comfortable with.

    (1) Regular mail

If you wish to send your photo(s) through the regular mail, simply to place it in an envelope (with something sturdy, to keep the photo from bending) and mail it to:

    JulieArtworks
    P.O. Box 6
    Lahaska, PA  18931

Just be sure give us a call or send a quick email to let us know that you are sending your photos through the mail.  This way, we will know to expect them and will be on the lookout!

Once we recieve your photo, we will scan it into our system and mail it back with your finished artwork.  (If you wish to have your photos back sooner, please let us know.)

    (2) Email Attachment

A quicker option for getting your photo to us is to send it as an email attachment.  Digital photos can be easily sent this way -- just be sure they have a resolution of at least 100 ppi (higher is even better) and are no greater than 1mg in size.  If you have a traditional photo and wish to send it to us through email, you'll need to scan the photo into your computer first.   Again, be sure you scan your photo in at a resolution of at least 100 ppi (higher is better) and that the files you send are no greater than 1mg in size.

What kind of picture can I use?

Most photos will work well for creating your artwork.  However, you should use common sense when chosing a photo.  The photo should be focused, reasonably sharp and clear, and there shouldn't be anything blocking major parts of your subject.  For example, while we can retouch a photo to remove grass that may be blocking a cat, or to correct doggie "red eye", etc., we cannot use a photo that has major parts of the subject blocked by something.  Please remember that if your photo requires major retouching, additional charges may apply.  (Contact us for details, as we may need to see the photo to give you a cost estimate.)

Can two or more photos be combined into one painting/portrait?

Absolutely!  We do this all the time.  The only requirement is that the photos have similar lighting, sharpness, and focus, and that the main subjects in each picture are about the same distance from the camera.

How much time do you need to complete my order?

We generally require 3-5 weeks to complete your artwork.   Please let us know if you need your work done sooner than this.   We will try to accomodate your time requirements if at all possible.

Realtors:  See the realtor page for special info regarding orders for closing dates, etc.

How do I pay for my order?

We accept checks or credit cards (VISA or MasterCard).

To pay by credit card, click on "How to Order" from the index on your left, or go to www.julieartworks.com/order.html.   Next, click on the bright yellow button near the top of the Order page.  This will take you to a new page, where you click on the VISA/MasterCard button to initiate the payment process.  Our credit card payments are managed through PayPal, a well-known and very secure online credit card processing service.  Please be aware that you do NOT have to have a PayPal account to use the service.   Simply fill out the transaction form, and be sure to indicate the amount you are paying.

If you prefer to pay by check, please make your check out to JulieArtworks and send it to:

    JulieArtworks
    P.O. Box 6
    Lahaska, PA  18931

Will I see a proof of my portrait before you finalize it and ship it to me?

Yes!  When your artwork is ready, we will post a proof of it to a private viewing page on the JulieArtworks website for you to review.  You may make any comments or suggestions at this time (for example, "Can you make his eyes darker" or "Please add more flowers to the garden in the front", etc.)  At JulieArtworks, we work with you to make sure you are completely satisfied with your artwork.   Upon your approval of the proof,  your artwork will be finalized and shipped out to you within the following 2 weeks (sooner if necessary).  Please note that your balance must be paid in full before we can ship your final artwork to you.

What if I don't like the artwork you created for me?

At JulieArtworks, we work with you to make sure you are completely satisfied with your artwork.  If after a reasonable number of revisions you are still not happy with your proof, we will issue you a full refund of the deposit you placed with us.  However, once you approve your proof and your custom artwork has been shipped to you, no refunds will be granted.

Do you matte and frame the artwork you create?

Custom matting is included in the price of all portraits we create.  We use only the finest 100% acid free rag mat board in all of our products.  We generally stick to neutral colors when matting our portraits (e.g., white, off-white, gray, etc), although we try to honor requests for other colors when possible.

You may also choose NOT to have your portrait matted.  Pricing on your order will be reduced depending on the size of the portrait ordered.   Please contact us for specifics if you prefer not to have us mat your piece.

We do not offer framing services at this time, since most clients prefer to pick their own frames and the cost to ship glass is very expensive.

If I order a custom painting, is there a discount to get a second copy?

Yes there is!  Here's the price breakdown:

    16x20 -- additional copies are $79.99 each (50% discount)
    11x14 -- additional copies are $50.00 each (60% discount)
      8x10 -- additional copies are $36.50 each (60% discount)

If I order a custom painting, is there a discount for matching notecards?

We offer a great Portraits and Cards Package deal.  Specifically, if you order a custom portrait, you can purchase matching custom art cards/envelopes for only $1.50 per notecard (4.25 x 5.5) or $2.50 per greeting card (5x7).  We can offer you this great rate on the cards and waive the $55 card-art fee because the artwork has already been completed with your portrait order!

Purchasing our Portraits and Cards Package is a great and economical way to turn a special gift into a spectacular one!

Do you have a satisfaction guarantee?

At JulieArtworks, we work with you to make sure you are completely satisfied with your artwork.  If after a reasonable number of revisions you are still not happy with your proof, we will issue you a full refund of the deposit you placed with us.  However, once you approve your proof and your custom artwork has been shipped to you, no refunds will be granted.

    What is "digital art", anyway?

In its simplest explanation, "digital art" is artwork created on a computer.  It can be created completely from scratch, much like a painter would do with a blank canvas, or it can build upon an image that already exists in a different form.  At JulieArtworks, we specialize in photo-manipulation to create our art.  That is, an ordinary photograph is used as our canvas.  With specialized painting software in our artist's supply box, we use a "digital paintbrush" to create our art while striving to maintain the look of more traditional mediums.  Each art piece is created with the bigger picture in mind, often while working pixel by pixel, or "cell-by-cell".  The result is a digital painting that looks very much like a watercolor or oil painting without the astronomical prices that typically go along with it.
